Garner, a historic town conveniently located within driving distance of Raleigh, has a population of 32,000 and is known for Garner’s Station, a downtown district that encompasses 62 buildings and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The area originally grew from a North Carolina Railroad stop that was built in the mid-19th century. It served as a transportation hub for a variety of agricultural goods.

The historic downtown district incorporates architectural styles such as Classical Revival, Queen Anne, and American Craftsman. Among the noteworthy landmarks are the Hayes Chapel Christian Church, Garner Depot, and W. L. Brooks House.
The arts play an important role in Garner’s civic life, with the Garner Performing Arts Center frequently hosting locally and nationally acclaimed musicians and theatrical troupes. A particular highlight for residents is the annual Independence Day Celebration that includes performances by the North Carolina Symphony.
